Mentorship Program
The Summer School will offer the possibility to participate in a mentorship program. A selected group of students will be paired with a mentor for one year with the intention of writing a paper for MICCAI 2026. This is a unique opportunity, and we encourage everyone to apply. If you wish to be part of the mentorship program in addition to registering for the Summer School, please fill out this form:
๐ Mentor Registration Form
๐ Mentee Registration Form
What youโll gain:
- ๐ฏ Personalized guidance on project design, writing, and publishing
- ๐ค Regular one-on-one sessions with your mentor
- ๐ Hands-on support to develop & submit your MICCAI 2026 paper
Selection Criteria
The mentorship programme will be offered only to students who have never attended MICCAI before and are looking to attend MICCAI 2026. We aim to match as many eligible applicants as possible. However, the number of matched mentees will be limited by the availability of mentors and program resources.
Priority will be given to students from underrepresented minority groups. To be eligible, you must work on a challenge task for approximately one month and submit the results to the challenge organizers. All details will be provided during the Summer School.
Key dates:
- ๐ Application deadline: 1 August, 2025 (Mentor) / 18 July, 2025 (Mentee)
- โณ Mentorship period: 1 September 2025 โ 1 October 2026
MICCAI RISE Summer School Q&A
Q1: Can you clarify the requirements for mentorship program eligibility, especially concerning applicants without formal supervisors?
A: Priority goes to students highly motivated to work towards a MICCAI 2026 publication and who have a clear project in mind. If you currently don't have a supervisor, you're still eligible to apply for the mentorship program. However, it will be your responsibility to ensure a future supervisor agrees to include the mentor as a co-author on the resulting paper. We're requesting a funding letter to help secure travel funds for mentees who successfully publish a MICCAI paper, but this is not guaranteed at the moment. Please note when you are completing the mentee form ensure you provide a letter in the fields requesting information relating to the supervisor to justify why you do not have a formal supervisor at the moment and include the steps if possible on how you will secure a supervisor.
Q2: When will the mentorship program awardees be announced?
A: To be eligible for the mentorship program, you must complete a challenge task for approximately one month and submit your results to the challenge organizers. All details for this will be provided during the Summer School. The mentorship program itself runs from September 2025 to September 2026, and awardees will be confirmed by the end of August 2025.
Q3: Are there funding options to support participation at local hubs?
A: Unfortunately, we don't have funds to directly support participation at local hubs. However, we suggest contacting the local organizers of the hubs directly to discuss any potential funding opportunities they might have.
Q4: Will the Summer School sessions be recorded and shared?
A: Yes, the majority of the sessions will be recorded and shared. However, a few sessions will not be made available online at the request of the speaker.
Q5: Can responses be edited after submitting the confirmation form?
A: If you need to edit your response after submitting the confirmation form, please email Tareen Dawood (tarda@dtu.dk) or Esther Puyol (esther.puyol_anton@kcl.ac.uk), and they can remove your original application, allowing you to submit a new one.
Q6: Will certificates be issued by RISE MICCAI for both in-person and online attendees of the summer school?
A: Yes, certificates will be issued upon request to all participants, whether attending in person or online. To request a certificate, please contact Tareen Dawood (tarda@dtu.dk) or Esther Puyol (esther.puyol_anton@kcl.ac.uk) for assistance.
Q7: Should the mentor be someone officially affiliated with your network, or can it be an independent mentor from my own country?
A: Mentors will be allocated from the RISE network. If someone wishes to join as a mentor, they can register via this form: https://forms.gle/gJDSQKT9hX6AozFq7
Q8: Is there a specific process to request support from an approved mentor, or is it up to the applicant to establish this connection?
A: What kind of support will be provided to participants? Mentors and mentees will be connected directly after the challenge phase concludes (beginning of September). The frequency of meetings and specific areas of focus will be mutually decided between the mentor and mentee. The program is designed to guide students aiming for their first MICCAI 2026 paper, covering both technical guidance and soft skills like paper writing. Any specific requirements should be discussed with your mentor.
Q9: Will any resources (technical, academic, or otherwise) be made available during the program?
A: Currently, there aren't dedicated additional resources. However, mentors often provide supplementary resources based on their extensive experience.
Q10: And since we are participating in the program, will there be any form of prioritization, guidance, or special consideration for our paper submission?
A: While MICCAI's strict acceptance rules prevent prioritization, the program commits to providing as much guidance as possible throughout the submission process. For mentees needing travel funding for MICCAI 2026, the RISE organizing committee is actively working to secure support, though this is not guaranteed.
Q11: Do I need to register for the summer school to participate in the mentorship program?
A: Yes, registration for the summer school is required in order to participate in the mentorship program.
Q12: Do I need to register for the challenge to be eligible as a mentee?
A: Yes, you must register for both the summer school and the mentorship program, and fulfill all the necessary requirements.
Q13: Do I need to have a team for the challenge?
A: No, the challenge will be completed individually.
